"This is just the way I am...REALLY?"

THINK THURSDAY: There is no such things as “just being who you are,” in my opinion.  You are either settling for the person you currently are, or you are becoming the person that you have the potential to be.  While I do believe that you can be right smack dab in the middle of both at the same-same time, ‘ just being’ is not an option.

Some people are "just being" because in their minds they feel there is nothing wrong with who they are. Others are truly in the middle because they may not like who they are, but they are not willing or do not know how to make a change. Yet others are continually being because they are always trying to learn new things, challenge themselves, strive to make themselves better. Only the person with acknowledgement and desire, along with the help from GOD can truly remove them from a "just being" state!

Jovan, thanks for taking the time to read and post. According to Deneen's argument, where do you believe most of the "churched" Christians fit? What do you believe we can do to help them?

Deneen, great perspective in the sense that your argument is varied and not one sided, it is well articulated, concise, and coherent. I think that it is our job as the body of Christ to awaken and educate those who "feel that there is nothing wrong..." While nothing maybe wrong with who they are inherently, there is something wrong with the ingnorance of not knowing that God has a specific purpose for each of us. That is one of the reasons I love the teaching of Juan Cherry. Thank you for sharing! P.S. Tre's dinner looked really good!!!!

I like and agree with what Deneen said. I'm also pretty sure that we should always be striving to be better and to do better! As Christians if we are to be Christ-like we can not be okay with settling and just being who we are!! Striving to be better means we have to be willing to leave our old self behind and challenge ourselves to become new, recreated, a new being...bearing good fruit at all times?!? Are we challenging ourself to be the best parent, employee, sibling, spouse, co-worker, etc and what are we challenging those around us to become?!?

Terri, you are right! Often times we tend to focus on one area of your Christian walk and not all facets of our journey. Striving to be better should apply to every walk of life for us Chris - I - ans! Thanks for your comment.

I enjoyed today's daily inspiration.I have to say that there have been a lot of times I myself have just settled for what I thought was the person I thought that I was suppose to be when in reality I look back at those times and realize that I wasn't looking to the higher purpose of my life ,my identity . I was only seeing what worked for me at the time;not what was always what GOD had planned for me . Thank you Chad for helping me see that this is not a good way to except my life when I may be missing out on a much bigger , better , higher purpose. GOD bless you my friend and again thank you.

Susan, it seems that even w/o recognizing God's true potential for your self, you have been pretty successful. Now that you've begun to have a paradigm shift, it will be exciting to see how much significance God will add to your success! Thanks for posting and BLESSINGS!

I totally agree! I cant stand it when people say.."Im just being me or that's just the way I am"..totally get what you are saying..that's real talk right there..and just being is unacceptable..I know not everyone is in the Lord but surely you have to aspire to be more than just being or existing. Progression is a natural enstinct of human nature...so why would we just be comfortable with staying where we are..Never for me..I have been called to a higher purpose and I intend to get there..might be slow, might take a while but I difinitely dont want to miss the mark!

I believe there shoudnt be I am who I am except God he is good all the time and perfect he is the only one can say that. Especially if you're a Christian we should be growing in stages of maturity in the Lord. The struggle for me comes when the flesh is stubborn and not wanting to let go of habits or ways of thinking. We ought to emulate the ways Christ, of the fruit of the spirit and walk in love that is who we need to be but because of the flesh we fall short of that some more than others. However that is why the body of Christ is here to help edify each other to encourage us to be all that we can be in God. When we say things like I am who am then it makes think that's a individual who has a hard time learning lessons for their good.

Tasha, we are who we are by the Grace of God. However, often times when we fail to tap into and acknowledge His plan for us, we are settling for "just being". The body of Christ is a great tool for helping people unlock the potential God has placed inside of them. Thanks for posting and please visit the site again.

Chad, I have realized in moving out of your comfort zone it not only makes you nervous but others as well. I begin to move to where I believe God was taking me and people begin to ask questions, "You must be dating, what you doing, or who you think you are". I'm just trying to be a BETTER ME, so its possible to be in the same-same.

Wow, Lucinda! I preached a message yesterday at Ramsuer Baptist Church titled "Deeper…Still!" God is calling us deeper because there is more that he has in store for each of us…What you said is so true people will stifle you and hold you; they can love you to "Death" if you let them. Rise to the You that God desires; if you are pleasing Him eventually they can't help but be pleased, and if they don't politely ask them to go away. An old ministry friend of mine use to say, "Don't go away mad, but do go away!" Blessings to you...
